According to the American Cancer Society, almost 1.5 million new cases of cancer will occur this year. A staggering 600,000 of those are expected to die from this dreaded disease.

The most common forms of cancer are lung cancer and breast cancer. Did you know that the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women is lung cancer? In women, breast cancer is the second greatest cause of death. Colon cancer and prostate cancer are the next leading causes of death in men. When these statistics are collected by age, cancer has now surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States.

A multicellular organism can thrive only when all its cells function in accordance with the rules that govern cell growth and reproduction. Why does a normal cell suddenly become a "rebel," breaking the rules, dividing recklessly, invading other tissues, usurping resources, and in some cases eventually killing the body in which it lives?

To understand how and why cells rebel, we need to understand the normal functions of cell growth and reproduction. From the mid-nineteenth century on, research in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology has provided astonishingly detailed information about the molecules and processes that allow cells to divide, grow, differentiate, and perform their essential functions. This basic knowledge of cell biology has also led to practical discoveries about the mechanisms of cancer. Specific molecules that control the progression of a cell through the cell cycle regulate cell growth. An understanding of normal cell cycle processes and how those processes go awry provides key information about the mechanisms that trigger cancer. Loss of control of the cell cycle is one of the critical steps in the development of cancer.

All cancer cells share one important characteristic: they are abnormal cells in which the processes regulating normal cell division are disrupted. That is, cancer develops from changes that cause normal cells to acquire abnormal functions.

Cancer results from a series of molecular events that fundamentally alter the normal properties of cells. In cancer cells the normal control systems that prevent cell overgrowth and the invasion of other tissues are disabled. These altered cells divide and grow in the presence of signals that normally inhibit cell growth; therefore, they no longer require special signals to induce cell growth and division. As these cells grow they develop new characteristics, including changes in cell structure, decreased cell adhesion, and production of new enzymes. These heritable changes allow the cell and its progeny to divide and grow, even in the presence of normal cells that typically inhibit the growth of nearby cells. Such changes allow the cancer cells to spread and invade other tissues.

The abnormalities in cancer cells usually result from mutations in protein-encoding genes that regulate cell division. Over time more genes become mutated. This is often because the genes that make the proteins that normally repair DNA damage are themselves not functioning normally because they are also mutated. Consequently, mutations begin to increase in the cell, causing further abnormalities in that cell and the daughter cells. Some of these mutated cells die, but other alterations may give the abnormal cell a selective advantage that allows it to multiply much more rapidly than the normal cells. This enhanced growth describes most cancer cells, which have gained functions repressed in the normal, healthy cells. As long as these cells remain in their original location, they are considered benign; if they become invasive, they are considered malignant. Cancer cells in malignant tumors can often metastasize, sending cancer cells to distant sites in the body where new tumors may form. Read more here.

The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center tells us that in normal cells, new cells grow only to replace cells that degenerate or die. In contrast, a cancerous cell grows haphazardly and without regard to the condition of other cells. Furthermore, cancerous cells serve no useful function.

Cancer cells do not mature normally; they look like young, primitive cells. Often they do not become distinct, recognizable types of cells. In general, the more undifferentiated or more primitive the cell is, the worse the prognosis, or outcome.

In 1932 chemist Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery that cancer was anaerobic: it occurs in the absence of free oxygen. He told us that "...nobody today can say that one does not know what cancer and its prime cause are. On the contrary, there is no disease whose prime cause is better known,.... All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen - a rule without exception." Later he said, "Deprive a cell 60% of its oxygen and it will turn cancerous. Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous." http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Loxygen3.htm What it basically means is that cancer is caused by a lack of free oxygen in the body and therefore, whatever causes this to occur is the cause of ALL forms of cancer.

In chemistry, alkali solutions (pH over 7.0) absorb oxygen. Acids, on the other hand, (pH under 7.0) expel oxygen. A mild alkali can absorb over 100 times as much oxygen as a mild acid. All body fluids, except for stomach and urine, are supposed to be mildly alkaline at pH 7.4. So, when the body becomes acidic by falling below pH 7.0, oxygen is driven out of the body which, according to Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg, induces cancer (The Calcium Factor: The Scientific Secret of Health and Youth, Robert R. Barefoot, Carl J. Reich, M.D., pages 135-137).

It is critical that the blood remain at an alkaline pH 7.4 so that it can retain its oxygen. Without the oxygen in the blood, we would all quickly die.

When adequate mineral consumption is in the diet, the blood is supplied the minerals needed to maintain an alkaline pH of 7.4. But when there is not enough minerals consumed in the diet, the body is forced to rob other body fluids and organs of their crucial minerals, such as calcium, and supply them to the blood to maintain its pH 7.4. This causes the then mineral deficient fluids and organs (saliva, spinal fluids, kidneys, liver, etc.) to become acidic and therefore anaerobic, thus inducing cancer.

The American medical profession has known the cause of cancer for almost eighty years but has suppressed this knowledge to build a multi-billion dollar industry around the treatment for this disease. However, concerned scientists and medical professionals are now beginning to expose the AMA and FDA in their attempts to continue this fraud.

Dr. James Watson, who won a Nobel Prize for determining the shape of DNA, served two years on the National Cancer Advisory Board during the 1970's. In 1975, he was asked about the National Cancer Program. He declared, "It's a bunch of shit."

"To the cancer establishment, a cancer patient is a profit center. The actual clinical and scientific evidence does not support the claims of the cancer industry. Conventional cancer treatments are in place as the law of the land because they pay, not heal, the best. Decades of the politics-of-cancer-as-usual have kept you from knowing this, and will continue to do so unless you wake up to their reality."
-- John Diamond, M.D. & Lee Cowden, M.D.

"Chemotherapy is an incredibly lucrative business for doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies..The medical establishment wants everyone to follow the same exact protocol. They don?t want to see the chemotherapy industry go under, and that?s the number one obstacle to any progress in oncology."
-- Dr Glen A. Warner, M.D.

Disillusionment with chemotherapy is mounting within the medical profession. In a lecture, the doyen of French oncologists, Lucien Israel, M.D. once said, "One mustn't count blindly on chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells. These sick cells, when they are not eradicated by drugs, can become more and more aggressive and more and more difficult to treat" (quoted in "La Presse" of Montr?al,10/26/95).

Dr. Israel has spent nearly 60 years in the cancer field. At one time he was an ardent enthusiast for chemical treatments but has gradually realized that a large number of cancers simply develop a resistance to such drugs. And such resistance is attributable to the toxic stress generated by the treatment itself.

There is simply no evidence for the vast majority of cancers that treatment with these drugs exerts any positive influence on survival or quality of life in patients with advanced disease. The almost dogmatic belief in the efficacy of chemotherapy is usually based on false conclusions from inappropriate data.

The medical establishment ascribes the alleged historical increase in 5-year survival rates over the last few decades to the beneficial effects of chemotherapy. But this is erroneous thinking. Equating 'cure' with '5-year-survival' is misleading.

Effectiveness of Chemotherapy for the Majority of Cancers

Colorectal: no evidence exists that survival is improved by chemotherapy.

Gastric: no clear evidence.

Pancreatic: largest study "completely negative." Longer survival in the control group.

Bladder: no clinical trial done.

Breast: no direct evidence that chemotherapy prolongs survival. Use is "ethically questionable."

Ovarian: no direct evidence, but probably a small advantage from cis-platinum regimens. But non-randomized comparisons "almost worthless for assessment of therapy.

Cervix and corpus uteri: no improved survival.

Head and neck: no survival benefit, but occasional "positive effect" from shrinkage of tumors.

No other mineral is capable of performing as many biological functions as is calcium. Calcium is involved in almost every biological function. This amazing mineral provides the electrical energy for the heart to beat and for all muscle movement. It is the calcium ion that is responsible for feeding every single cell of the body. Calcium ions are absolutely essential for DNA replication which is the basis for all body repair. Without calcium, the cells cannot successfully replicate their DNA (The Role of Calcium in Biological Systems, Albert Lehniger, Professor of Medical Science, John Hopkins University, Volume 1, CRC Press). Therefore, low calcium means low body repair and premature aging... and a greater risk for cancer.

Of all the important biological functions that calcium performs, none is more important than the job of pH control. Calcium is to acid like water is to fire. Calcium quickly destroys oxygen-robbing acid in the body fluids. Thus, the more calcium, the more oxygen, and the less cancer.

Carcinogens and Cancer

A carcinogen is any substance or agent that promotes cancer. Carcinogens are also often, mutagens, which are agents that change the genetic information (usually DNA) of an organism. Carcinogens may cause cancer by altering cellular metabolism or damaging DNA directly in cells, which interferes with normal biological processes.

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is one of two types of molecules that encode genetic information. DNA is a double-stranded molecule held together by weak hydrogen bonds between base pairs of nucleotides. The molecule forms a double helix in which two strands of DNA spiral about one other. The double helix looks something like an immensely long ladder twisted into a helix, or coil. The sides of the "ladder" are formed by a backbone of sugar and phosphate molecules, and the "rungs" consist of nucleotide bases joined weakly in the middle by the hydrogen bonds. DNA contains the genetic instructions monitoring the biological development of all cellular forms of life, and many viruses. When this process is interupted cells cannot replicate normally and may cause cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society states that carcinogens are factors (agents), which cause the DNA inside a cell to become mutated or altered. However, for a mutation in the DNA to cause cancer, the mutation must cause the cell to do two things 1) to grow without control and 2) to become immortal (not die when supposed to).

Carcinogens can be physical, chemical or biological. Physical mutation of DNA can occur by ionising radiation, ultraviolet radiation and by mineral fibres. These three mutagens act in very different ways. Ionising radiation literally punches holes in the DNA, breaking the correct genetic sequence. Ionising radiation can come from X-rays, cosmic rays (solar radiation) and indirectly from radon gas. Ultraviolet radiation (from sunlight), by contrast, promotes mutations by causing certain portions of DNA to remain bound together (even when they shouldn’t). This causes mutations by creating a condition where DNA is misread in the biological cell process. Finally, certain natural mineral fibres like asbestos, because of their size can case damage directly to DNA resulting in carcinogenic mutations.

In the case of chemical mutagens, mutation is caused by foreign molecules binding to a cells DNA, causing it to be “misread”. Examples or chemical mutagens are benzopyrene (found in cigarette smoke) and vinyl chloride (found in the plastics industry), aflatoxin (found in certain moulds) and hetrocyclic amines (found in over-cooked food).

Biological mutagens may be viral or bacterial. Viral mutagens may use a number of different complex mechanisms to cause a cell to become cancerous. Viruses that cause cancer include the human papilloma virus (implicated in cervical cancer) the human T-cell lymphyocytic virus (implicated in lymphoma), the hepatitis B virus (implicated in liver cancer). Known bacterial mutagens are helicobacter pylori, implicated in stomach cancer.

The process by which cancers develop is called carcinogenesis. This process usually starts when mutagens damage DNA, the genetic structure inside cells. Viruses induce carcinogenesis by introducing new DNA sequences. Most of the time, when DNA becomes damaged the body is able to repair it. In cancer cells, however, the damaged DNA is not repaired. While normal cells with damaged DNA die, cancer cells with damaged DNA continue to multiply.

There is a long time lag between exposure to a carcinogen and the occurrence of cancer. While cellular mutations cause cancer to develop, it is not exactly clear how this happens. Carcinogenesis is a multistep process, in which as many as ten distinct mutations may have to accumulate in a cell before it becomes cancerous. The fact that so many mutations are needed for a cancer to develop indicates that cell growth is normally controlled through many sets of checks and balances.

All carcinogens are highly electron loving, chemically reacting substances, or compounds that are able to produce electrophilic reactants within the body. These are free radicals which are powerful electron acceptors who are eager to gather electrons from sources willing to act as donors. They can enter the body through consumption of unsaturated oils, food additives such as nitrites, or through inhalation and skin absorption of toxic chemicals such as benzene and the tar of cigarette smoke. Most polycyclic compounds, or compounds with benzene rings and polar radicals, are carcinogenic. Once in the blood serum they aggressively react with strong electron donors such as phosphorus oxygen bonding of the phospholipid cell membrane surface. The bonding is strong, and the carcinogens therefore remain firmly attached to the outer surface of the cell membrane severely reducing the ability of the cell surface to polar stack nutrients for entry into the cell.

Two significant ways in which the DNA of a cell may be exposed to carcinogens are: (1) If the cell membrane surface becomes significantly covered with the carcinogens they may smother the cell from its nutrients causing the cell to begin to disintegrate, or (2) should the bond between the phospholipid cell membrane surface and the carcinogen weaken, due to excess electrons staisfying the positive charge of the carcinogen, the carcinogen could be ripped off the cell surface and follow the polar stack fo nutrients, to which it is attached, into the cell. Either of these conditions could expose the DNA within the cell to the carcinogens.

Before addressing the carcinogenic alteration of DNA, a brief discussion of the human genetic code is necessary. The human body holds about ten trillion cells. Large molecules called proteins determine the structure and function of each cell. Each cell nucleus contains twenty-three pairs of what are known as chromosomes, that control the manufacture of proteins by the cell. A chromosome consists of two very long, spirally twisted strands of DNA, the chemical that carries genetic information from parents to offspring. DNA is divided into about one hundred thousand clusters called genes. A gene determines a huamn characteristic such as height, eye color, or disease resistance. Genes are composed of thousands of nucleotides, the smallest genetic unit. Nucleotides come in four different shapes called adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thiamine or A, C, G, and T, respectively, all arranged in pairs along the spiral strands of DNA. About three billion nucleotides make up what is called the human genome, which is the blueprint of a human being.

Most chemical carcinogens never gain entry into our cells because of alert defense mechanisms that destroy invaders. Enzymes from our cells' lysosomes and peroxisomes usually inactivate those that do enter the cells. Even with these protective mechanisms, some of the carcinogens may still enter the nucleus and bind with DNA. Cancer is still unlikely, however, because the body has a built-in DNA reapir system. Therefore, exposure of the DNA alone, to a carcinogen would be insufficient to create a mutation. We see, for example, that DNA is only able to accept certain specific radicals, and a carcinogen by itself would not fit into the DNA strand.

However, researchers have learned that some carcinogens such as dioxin can bind with certain soluble intracellular receptors, toxic enzymes, to provide a new complex of the right shape and size to be capable of binding to specific sequences of nucleotides which causes the DNA template to be bent or angled. Once this happens the DNA is then able to incorporate a foreign protein molecule that is not in the genetic code, in place of one of the A, C, G, or T nucleotides which may allow for a mutant to be born.

Understanding this, we must ask: what conditions within the cell are necessary to produce this mutation receptor? The early work of Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg showed conclusively that cancer was associated with conditions where an anaerobic (deficiency of oxygen) environment was present within a cell. Furthermore, the production of mutation receptors cannot occur with the pH of the cell in the healthy alkaline range of 7.4 to 6.6, a range which assures the breakdown of glucose into the A, C, G and T nucleotide radicals that promote healthy DNA synthesis.

Therefore, it is concluded, that with the absence of oxygen within the acidic intracellular fluids, the glucose undergoes fermentation into lactic acid, causing the pH of the cell to drop even further, thereby inhibiting the production of A, C, G and T nucleotides that allow for normal DNA synthesis. This provides the necessary conditions for toxic enzymes to produce radicals that will bond with carcinogens. The complexes they produce will bind with specific sequences of nucleotides in the DNA, causing the template to be altered, thereby setting the scene for the abnormal replication of DNA to trigger cancer. And, in the healthy, calcium buffered, slightly alkaline cell environment, the conditions required for the propagation of cancer do not exist.

There is a simple yet accurate test you can perform at home using pH paper that will help determine your risk for cancer or other serious illness. When someone is healthy, the pH of blood is 7.4, the pH of spinal fluid is 7.4, and the pH of saliva is 7.4. Therefore, the pH of the saliva parallels the extracellular fluid. A pH level of 7.4 is critical in promoting both normal DNA synthesis, cell growth, cell function, and cell repair.

The pH paper can be bought at all good health food stores in small rolls of ribbon or in strips. The paper purchased at health food stores generally ranges between 5.5 and 8.0.

To perform the test simply place a piece of the pH paper, or strip, into the well of saliva under the tongue for about three (3) seconds. The paper, when wet with saliva, will turn to a variety of colors ranging from and alkaline dark blue at 8.0, blue at 7.5, blue green at 7.2, dark green at 7.0 through progressive stages of yellowish green to 6.0, then to a brighter and brighter yellow approaching 5.5.

To get accurate results, the test should be performed two (2) hours after any food are drink have been put into the mouth. And the subject to be tested should draw fresh saliva into the mouth and swallow several times before taking the test.

Persons testing below 7.0 are generally suffering from a chronic calcium deficiency. Terminal cancer patients usually test a pH level of bright yellow below 5.0.

Cesium is a crystalline salt and has been used successfully to treat cancer for many years now. It is one of the most alkaline elements on earth.

Cesium Chloride and Cesium Carbonate work by raising the cancer cells' pH to a highly alkaline state. Cancer cannot live in a highly alkaline (oxygenated) environment. Raise its pH level to 8.0 and a cancer cell will die within hours. Although many anti-cancer diets also produce an alkaline state, they simply cannot do so as fast or as fully as Cesium can. Cesium along with calcium supplementation can quickly raise your cellular pH to the desired level.
